Hello, I'm Gene Phifer, the President/CEO of TACLE Corporation, of which TACLE Advisory is a wholly owned subsidiary.
The first half of my career was IT centric, where I held roles from developer to CIO.
Prior to my graduation from Ole Miss with a BS in Computer Science, I held multiple computer-centric jobs, including computer operator and systems programmer with the US Army Corps of Engineers, and Computer Consultant with the University of Mississippi. Total fulltime experience was four years.
My first job after graduation was with Texas Instruments, where I did mainframe COBOL/IMS programming, and advanced to the role of Systems Supervisor. There, I learned the inner workings of both process and discrete manufacturing. I also started work on my MBA from the University of Dallas during this timeframe. Total fulltime experience was five years.
Next, I worked for Frito-Lay, starting as a programmer/analyst, but quickly advancing to management roles, culminating in a Group Manager position. I was able to rotate positions between applications, infrastructure and data center, and between support of finance, manufacturing, logistics, sales and marketing, allowing me to gain tremendous perspective on multiple business functions and all aspects of IT. During this timeframe, I completed my MBA. Total fulltime experience was ten years.
I left Frito-Lay to join a small real estate software and consulting firm named Melson Technologies. There, I held the joint roles of CTO and CIO. I was also placed in charge of a newly acquired subsidiary, based in Chicago, to which I commuted every week. I learned much about running a business and the SME world, but I also learned that fulltime travel was not in the cards, so I left after one year.
I found myself back at Texas Instruments, where I held the role of Program Manager in charge of non-mainframe technologies. Here is where I gained my expertise in the Internet and related technologies, which led the way to the second half of my career with Gartner. Total fulltime experience was five years.
The second half of my career was with Gartner, the world's leading research and advisory services firm.
My leading work on Internet technologies at Texas Instruments, including making the cover of CIO Magazine, caught the eye of Gartner. I started as an analyst in the Internet Practice, where I wrote research papers, provided telephone-based client consulting, created and delivered presentations, and performed multiple one-day consulting engagements with both vendor and end user clients.
I covered many areas of technology for Gartner, centered mostly around Internet technologies, the Web, mobile computing, and portals. I founded the portal practice area in Gartner, which led to the current coverage of Digital Experience Platforms. I also performed many additional activities for Gartner:
Gartner Conferences Where Presentations Were Delivered: 188
Gartner Conference Chairmanships: 15
Client Events Supported: 400+
Countries Visited: 31
Total fulltime experience was 25.4 years.
After retiring from Gartner, I went into semi-retirement. I'm not ready to hang up my cleats totally, so I started my own advisory firm, TACLE Advisory, to keep my finger on the pulse of technology and business innovation, and to maintain my network of contacts.
My expertise in customer experience, employee experience, and digital experience technologies allows me to provide a broad array of advisory services. Since forming TACLE Advisory, I have performed multiple engagements including document/presentation reviews, telephone-based consulting, and delivery of keynote presentations at conferences. Most recently, I have been focusing on AI, especially Generative AI (GenAI), and its impact on both technology and business strategies.
